Since my mom babysat my dog, I wanted to treat her so I decided to take her to this landmark restaurant. She never even heard of AJ's. I know it is one of my best friends favorite restaurant. She even had her birthday celebrated here. I wanted my mom to have bulgar with her beef kebab and she wasn't sure if she would like it. A really nice server gave her a sample plate and she fell in love with it. we also tried their hummus with pita bread and my mom devoured most of it. She wants to come back again and was so happy with the food and the service.

In my opinion, this is the most delicious Armenian Restaurant in the Central Valley! Food, off the charts fresh and delicious, and the restaurant is almost always filled with Armenians dining- thats a good sign at an Armenian Cusine Restaurant! Now, you have to know a few things going in...parking is often full, and you may need to park along Maroa, there is a sign that clearly states food will take at least 30 min, so it is not going to be an inny-outty quick meal, and also, service may take awhile- but it's all worth it! There are tables and chairs, mostly tables seat four, with the option to push tables together for a larger group. Servers are friendly, and willing to modify meals. Came here on a weekday afternoon, and it was completely packed. But we enjoyed warm pita bread, baba ganoush, hummus, tabouli, yalanchi, and salad. Also ordered at the table was Chicken Kebab served with delicious veggies and scrumptious pilaf. Hands down, Pilaf is always the star of the show. Awesome that they have kids meal options as well. Grilled Cheese and Chicken Strip Meals were enjoyed by the little ones. All this being said, we tried something we never had before here, and it was absolutely heavenly- and such a huge portion! We ordered the grilled eggplant and Anaheim Peppers to share...Melt in your mouth yumminess! Will I return...that's a big 1000% yes!

Yummy Was meeting up with a friend to celebrate her birthday/her choice my first time here & loved it. The food was all so nice & fresh (notice sign at checking in "Allow 30 minutes for Meal prep ", worth it) service was very good & attentive. Friend ordered the Sampler Plate and really enjoyed it all. My choice was the Chicken Dinner and enjoyed every bite! The chicken had good flavors & very moist, the rice pilaf & vegetables were cooked to perfection. Did start out with a small side salad, tasty house dressing. To end the meal Birthday girl chose the Limoncello cake (to share) for dessert, highly recommend it right amount of lemon flavor & super moist. Look forward in going to support them again soon. Eat & support local.

Great Armenian food that is always busy. They have inside and outside dining areas. One of the best menu items is the lamb Riblets eaten as an appetizer or entree and the pork ribs with bone in. Both are seasoned very well and have that delicious smoky flavor and juiciness you just want to tear off the bone.

First time here and it was great. Made reservations and we were seated promptly. Staff was very friendly. It's a small place. Nice and clean. Very busy. I had lamb chops, pilaf and veggies. The lamb was really tasty. Pilaf was fine just not super flavorful and the veggies were cooked perfectly. Loved the garlic sauce. Pita and hummus was also very good. We will definitely return the next time we are craving authentic Armenian food.

It was my first time visiting an Armenian restaurant, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I left this place VERY satisfied. I've never had lamb riblets before, so when I saw that on the menu, I just had to have it. And it. Was. Amazing. It was the best lamb I've ever had. The texture and flavor was phenomenal. It was a perfect amount of crispiness on the singed parts that really did it for me. Best food I've had in Fresno!

Looking for classic Western Armenian food? Check out AJ's! You know it's good when the restaurant is filled with local Armenians! I highly recommend starting with the adjika---a spicy red pepper dip served with warm pita. The chicken fatoush salad is always crisp and refreshing with juicy chicken, pita chips and a tangy sumac dressing. Our favorite is served only on Tuesdays--manti! Small meat filled dumplings served either with or without broth. Get there early because it tends to sell out. Service is always warm and friendly with staff that have been there for years...it definitely makes up for the lack of ambiance.

They had the most tender chicken I'd had in awhile. I definitely was not expecting the chicken so be as good as it was, but it was marinated well and had all the right flavors. I think the biggest downside is that they were out of rice pilaf and so I had to get bulgar and fried instead. My friend who ordered the beef had said that it wasn't the medium rare that she had hoped for though. I really enjoyed the hummus and baba ganouche. The hummus was super fresh and tasted like my favorite hummus from a place back east. The pita bread could have been thicker though. I thought the place was really good and would return, but hopefully they have rice pilaf the next time I visit.
